Apologies Not Accepted – Investors.com.
It has now been revealed through a leaked diplomatic cable that the Japanese government refused to accept President Obama’s apology for the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki that ended World War II.
President Obama was wrong to offer an apology to the Japanese. He has no right to judge the actions of President Truman, who made the agonizing decision to unleash the most terrible weapon ever crafted by mankind. Truman’s options at the time were limited to using atomic bombs for the first time, or sending over 1 million Allied troops into near certain death in an all-out invasion of the Japanese home islands. The fighting on Okinawa alone cost the lives of 24,000 U.S. troops and over 100,000 Japanese.
The American people do not owe an apology for using the only weapon available that possessed the power to end the war that Imperial Japan started. The facts are that the atom bombs not only ended World War II, but through the fear of annihilation, ironically prevented World War III. The Cold War aside, the U.S. maintained peace with a belligerent and expansionist Soviet Union for 50 years due to the unspoken threat of nuclear retaliation.
The desire of our most recent leaders to apologize for the actions of their predecessors is disturbing. It’s as if no decision of a U.S. President is safe from the 20-20 hindsight of those who would sit in judgement, far removed from the unprecedented, historic events that led to those decisions. We certainly should not apologize for the actions that were taken to restore freedom to captured lands, or to remove tyrants from power, to advance the cause of human liberty in the world.

Please follow the link and read the article, written by Ernie Pyle almost a week after the first landings of D-Day. Sometime today, or later this week, take a moment to remember, and say a prayer of thanks for those members of the Greatest Generation, who fought and died to guarantee our freedom.
Carter: Fox commentators have ‘deliberately distorted’ news – The Hill’s Blog Briefing Room.
Oh, I guess it was Fox that reported Saddam Hussein’s propaganda as straight news in order to keep a reporter in Baghdad- no wait, that was CNN, Jimmy Carter’s favorite cable news channel, which tries to “stay in the middle”. Well then, it must have been Fox News that broadcast a report on George W. Bush featuring “fake but accurate” forged documents- oops, sorry, that was CBS News’ 60 Minutes, starring their then-nightly news anchor Taliban Dan Rather. President Carter, with all due respect, Glenn Beck is a commentator, not an anchorman, just like Jon Stewart or Keith Olbermann. Oh, and I’m sorry to hear that you feel like you were treated badly by the media during your one term in office. You need to see it from their point of view-it had to hard for them to put a positive spin on gas lines, terrorist nations holding Americans hostage, 21% interest rates, and runaway inflation. Face it, Mr Carter, you really didn’t give the media very much to work with.
A Wall of Separation June 1998 – Library of Congress Information Bulletin.
Memo to Chris Coons- it’s not in the Constitution.
My oldest son Matthew asked me what I knew about John F. Kennedy and his wartime service, particularly the story of the PT 109, the wooden patrol boat that then- Lieutenant (jg) Kennedy captained in the Pacific during World War II. He had read something on the Internet about it, and he wanted to know what I thought. Growing up in the 1960′s, I had of course heard the story and the song and I remember seeing the movie starring Cliff Robertson.
Being the son of a WWII veteran, I was and I still am fascinated by the war and the stories of heroism, sacrifice, and courage of those who served and fought in the various theatres of combat. While much has been speculated about Kennedy’s combat record and the subsequent judgement of it, one thing is absolutely not in question- John Kennedy proved himself a hero by the actions he took to save his crew after a collision with a Japanese destroyer sank their vessel.
